If traveling to Belize, I would definitely visit some of Ancient Mayan archaeological sites.

Xunantunich Maya Ruins is one of the top list.

Xunantunich sits atop a hill overlooking the Mopan River and the Cayo District. I'd love to climb to the top of El Castillo, the largest pyramid within the site, to see a breathtaking 360 degree panoramic view over the jungle and river valleys.

Various kinds of day trips to Xunantunich are available in the area.
If you are staying at Ka'ana Belize, personal tour guide can be arranged (20 minuts from the resort to the site).

How to get there:
About 20 minutes from San Ignacio by bus (or drive) to the village of San Jose Succotz, from where hand-cranked cable ferry take you across the river to the foot of the site. From there, hike up about a mile to the site.
(* It takes about 3 hours by bus from Belize City to San Ignacio.)
* About 2 hour-flight from Miami to Belize City Philip S.W.Goldson Int. Airport. About 2.5 hour-flight from Houston, Texas. There are also flights from Atlanta, Charlotte, Newark, Dallas within U.S.
